Beaumont Blues Festival

We just capped off our summer with an incredible experience at the 5th annual Beaumont Blues Fest. After taking a month off for Ben and Cort to go on some well deserved holidays we were feeling a little bit underprepared for our biggest gig to date. Those trepidations aside we almost didn't perform at all due to the extreme weather folks up in Beaumont endured this weekend.

The first night of the festival was rained out, with headliners Spirit of the West and several other acts getting cancelled. When we arrived the following afternoon the site was getting hammered by winds gusting up to 80 km/h! We were one of the first full bands to be allowed to set foot on stage and it was nerve wrecking setting up our gear worrying that it would all blow over. It seemed as though the entire stage might come down! But just as we struck the first chords the sun broke through the clouds at last and we set to entertaining the brave crowd who had been waiting so patiently for music to begin after so much disappointment.

We had a blast. All our worries drifted away in the prairie winds and we were really happy with our performance. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves as we were continuously showered with compliments throughout the rest of the evening. It was a wonderful feeling to have been able to share the stage with so many great musicians. Australian blues trio Mason Rack Band put on an amazing set with their heavy guitar riffs, dazzling musicianship and choreographed drumming. By this time the weather had grown calm and the skies clear as Canadian icon Kim Mitchell took the stage. We got to network with a ton of other musicians and music enthusiasts and sold almost all the CDs we’d brought with us.

The gigs just keep getting better! It’s so encouraging to discover how vibrant the music scene in Alberta is becoming. With our next gig not until mid-October we plan on diving back into the studio to work on our next set of releases. Thanks to everyone who came out to Beaumont Blues Fest, we hope to see you all again very soon!

A marvelous Beaumont Blues Festival experience. Love dancing to you guys. Your last song, "Death of (in) Science?" fantastic. Got to meet Joshua who rocked out with me! Disappointed not to find it on either of the CD's I bought! But look forward to the promised EP. Yes? Ben, You mentioned a multi-media evening in Calgary which made reference to permaculture. A practice I am just learning more about. Hope to follow this event on your site. All the best LG. Roger Swan.
